Demoscene Marvels ??? Know Your History

I started a while ago a special play list at my YouTube channel SACReleases, which showcases over 400 videos (as of now and growing) related to the demo and art scenes already, to highlight the best demos across all computer platforms over the past 18 years.?? I called it the ???Demoscene Marvels???, because I think that those productions are indeed marvels that should not be forgotten. The first production in my marvels list is from 1991 and the latest on from 2009. ?? If you thought that the old 8bit and 16bit classics are dead, think again! The last demo from the Commodore 64 in my marvels list is from 2007 and the last Commodore Amiga production in this list is from this year. Surprised? I guess it is time again for another collection of mine. I was able to put the new Version 2.0 of my scene release creator batch script to good use again. It was a breeze to get it ready with this new and enhanced version of it. You should check it out as well. This collection is a bit different and some of the hard core purist sceners will probably have something to bitch about it, like that you can only appreciate things, if you use the original software on the original hardware. Screw them. To show younger folks how things looked back in the days, before many of the kids were even born, then you have to provide the means to access the stuff with the current technology. If they got a taste of things and like it, then they can still go through the extra length, accept the extra cost and additional time that it takes to be authentic. Why should they do that without even knowing what they can expect in return for those extra efforts? Two more scene art releases are coming your way. All in all about 1 GB of data for you to download and spread to FTP servers, old-school bulletin board systems and share with friends and other sceners and/or graphic artists who are able to appreciate what they are looking at. The first release is actually an update, a major one though. In response to my videos about the Berlin Wall (like this one on Vimeo.com) or when people who I meet in person learn that I grew up in the former East-Berlin (the communist part of the city), they often ask me about my own personal experiences and feelings that I had. Specifically when it comes to the time when I was 15 years old and from when the Wall fell on November 9, 1989 until the reunion of the two German segments on October 3, 1990; a time that was emotionally and turbulent with new events unfolding rapidly, like a land slide or avalanche. Notes and Clarifications I posted pretty much the same stuff as comments to a previous blog post of mine, but thought to myself that it actually warrants the creation of an individual post just dedicated to this. I also posted already the publicly known historic facts of the events. This one is personal and I tried to recall what I thought at that time and what happened from my own perspective as good and accurate as I can. It has been almost 20 years since they actually occurred, so some of the details of my memories could be flawed and incorrect (that is not because I intended that, but because it is a ???human flaw??? when it comes to ???storing??? and ???cataloging??? personal long term memories. I wrote in the past already two blog posts about the subject of the “Berlin Wall“, which accompanied videos that I created using moving and photographic images from those historic events. See The Berlin Wall – History Lessons Learned and The Berlin Wall and the Walls Between Us I created four versions of my “Berlin Wall” documentary already and also another short video that only depicts the events from 1989 that lead to the collapse of the East German regime. I am still not happy with the last version of it and still work on a version 5 of it. I gathered a lot more video material and found better quality sources for video images that I already used in the previous installments of my documentary.
