This post is part of my Cirque du Soleil Information Primer Article Series Cirque du Soleil Touring Shows Touring shows are the traditional Circus style like shows that are performed within a big circus tent (called the “Big Top“), which gets wrapped up every few months to be rebuild and made ready in another City somewhere around the world to stay there for a few weeks , perform the show and then move on to the next city. Last Updated: July, 2014. The first Cirque du Soleil show on tour in 19984 was limited to within Canada and the United States only. It was not until “Saltimbanco” that Cirque shows would be touring internationally and virtually to every continent on this planet (excluding Antarctica for now 😛 ) LeGrand Tour du Cirque du Soleil (1984-85, 16.June 1984, Gaspe, 14.May 1985, Montreal) Director: Franco Dragonè Director of Creation: Guy Caron Music Composer: René Dupéré Set: Andre Caron Costumes/Props: Hélène Dubé Lighting: Jean Leduc Trainer/Choreographer: Zygmunt Biegaj This show was more like classic circus. I am not aware of any recordings of it. Created to celebrate the 450th anniversary of Jacques Cartier’s (1491-1557) arrival in Gaspe/Canada, it was so well received by audiences that Cirque decided to go on tour with the program within Canada afterwards. The second tour of the show in 1985 is also sometimes referred to as “Le Cirque du Soleil”. This article is part of my Cirque du Soleil Information Primer Articles Series. Resident Shows of Cirque du Soleil Resident shows are in contradiction to the Cirque du Soleil touring show, performed at one specific location/venue throughout it’s run. A resident show does not come to visit people around the world, you have to pay it a visit yourself and travel to the location of the resident show, if you want to see it live. The venue is usually specially constructed and build from scratch for the Cirque du Soleil show and only that show is performed at that venue location. This allows Cirque to do things that are impossible with a touring show on the road that need to be packed up and moved to another city every couple months. Good examples of resident shows that take special advantage of their fix location are “O” with the big swimming pool as the stage and “KA” with the stage that is vertical and capable of rotating 360 degrees. Most of the music in the show are remixed versions of traditional and well known tracks of previous Cirque du Soleil shows. Also the acts that are performed to these remixed songs often are similar in look and feel as the act of the original show. Delirium is a urban tale about an ordinary man (Bill) who experiences the issues of a words who is increasingly getting out of sync, believing to be just a dream. He sees reality from inside his own bubble and how it tries to find the[…]

This article is part of my Cirque du Soleil Information Primer Articles Series. Other Performances of the Cirque Note: The Cirque did more special performances than I listed here. I learn about other performances every now and then and update my list. Nobody else seems to keep a record of this, including the Cirque itself. Las Vegas has the lion share of resident shows and that will not change in the future. Two more shows who will call “Sin City” their home are in the making and add to the FIVE resident shows Las Vegas has already today. The Cirque will also continue to create smaller scale one-time events in the years to come.
